Snowmobile Rendezvous

It’s that time of year again when snowmobile riders hop on the 120-mile Paul Bunyan Trail. Snowmobiling is a popular winter sport in our area and many will gather in Pequot Lakes for the annual Antique Snowmobile Rendezvous this Friday and Saturday, January 18th and 19th. Activities kick off on Friday at noon with an antique and vintage snowmobile ride to the Timberjack Smokehouse and Saloon (newer sleds welcome too). There will also be a campfire shortly after arrival. Feel free to gather at the American Legion in Pequot following the trail ride.

Saturday’s events begin at 9 a.m. with registration at Trailside Park, with the show starting at 10 a.m. For a full line-up of events, click here. Awards will be given for the oldest operational machine, best original antique, best restored antique cutter class/peer’s choice, rat sled (must run), best original/restored vintage machine (1969 or newer) and best costume.

You certainly don’t have to own a sled to enjoy the Rendezvous, but if you like riding and don’t own a snowmobile, no problem! The following businesses are a few locations with sled rentals:

Donations Needed

I was surprised to read on the Red Cross website that someone in the U.S. needs a blood donation every two seconds. Two seconds; that’s pretty remarkable. Whether you’re a frequent blood donor or have never donated before, consider heading to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes for their blood drive on Thursday, January 17th from noon- 6 p.m. You are welcome to make an appointment by calling Dave Anderson at (218) 568-8387 or through the Red Cross website here. Appointments aren’t necessary, so you can simply walk in too. On average, the blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself only takes about 8-10 minutes.

If you’re unable to make this blood drive and would like to catch another one, there are two more coming up in our area:

– Wednesday, February 20th from noon- 6 p.m.
Pequot Lakes American Legion
– Tuesday, April 2nd from noon- 6 p.m.
Pequot Lakes High School

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is located at 30985 Front Street. For more information about blood donation and what to expect at a blood drive, click here.

Unleash Your Creativity

I think I’d be pretty wealthy if I counted the number of times people told me they weren’t crafty. Whether you think you are or not, gather your friends or co-workers and head to a sign party with Signature Signs because no experience is necessary! These fun events allow you to assemble a wooden sign, stain it, pick your paint colors, paint your design and attach hanging hardware so you can display your masterpiece right when you get home.

Signature Signs has many events happening in our area, which can be found on their Facebook site here. After signing up, you will need to pick your design at least one week prior to the event. Be prepared because they have over 100 fun templates you can view here.

Cost depends on the size and shape of your chosen sign:
– $40 for rectangle or square sign
– $50 for one-sided long porch sign
– $60 for two-sided long porch sign
– $60 for round sign
* Prices do not include food/drink, but you are welcome to order on your own.

If you’d like to host a painting party, you can do that too! For more information on hosting or any other questions you may have, shoot them an email at or call them at (218) 831-2670. Happy designing!

The Music Continues

When I hear the words music festival, I instantly think of summer. Even though we are well into the winter season, music continues year-round with Lakes Area Music Festival (LAMF). This weekend, they will continue their winter series with a concert entitled, “Winter Journey.” Their chamber music will feature many talented musicians, including founding artist directors, John Taylor Ward on baritone and Scott Lykins on piano.

“Winter Journey” is scheduled for this Sunday, January 6th, at 2 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Cross, located at 5064 County Road 13 in Nisswa. No tickets are required and admission is free, although a $20 donation is encouraged. For more information about Lakes Area Music Festival, visit

First off, Happy New Year! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe New Year’s Eve. With the start of a new year, maybe some of you came up with a new year resolution. It often seems a popular resolution is a healthier lifestyle. I don’t know about you, but I believe starting the day with a good, hearty breakfast is important. What great timing, as the Pelican Lakes Conservation Club is hosting a big breakfast this Saturday, January 5th, to kick off the Ice Fest in Breezy Point Resort.
